More facts and information about our club.

We'll start by telling you about the clubs' history, then move onto the present, letting you know just who's who, from the chief coach to the swimmers reps, all the information is here. Then for anyone who'd like to join us, our training times and what you'll have to pay!

THE EARLY DAYS

The club was formed way back in 1972 by Mrs Sue Hawley. It started with just 15 children training twice a week at the Victoria Park Leisure Centre, within a year though the number of kids had risen to over a hundred and training was every night ! Even in those early days the kids used to landtrain, that was at the old miners welfare opposite the leisure centre, sadly no longer there !

Back then we only used to swim in one league, the Speedo League, a far cry from today where we compete in 5 leagues throughout the year. Sue stayed with the club for 15 years and even now she teaches swimming for the local schools ! Sue wanted the club to be enjoyable as well as competative and her values are still shared by the club today.

When you talk to Sue today she is tremendously proud of the club and the swimmers she trained over the years, some of those swimmers still hold club records ! Sue recalled the name of 1 of those record holders James Briggs an extremely good breaststroker. Sadly James died at the age of 16, his record still stands though !
